  89.                      A 555 Timer Designer and

  92. EZ555 is an easy to use tool for designing astable oscillators. This
  93. program should be useful for educational purposes and prototype
  94. development.  The results produced by this program should never be
  95. directly used in a design without extensive prototype testing. EZ555
  96. will allow users to work with impractical designs. Power dissipation
  97. problems are not detected by EZ555.
  98.  
  99. EZ555 allows users to use a "cut and try" design method. An engineer
  100. can try a wide range of possibilities in a very short time  using
  101. EZ555. The program can also be very useful for instruction and learning.
  102. A professor can present a wide range of possibilities to students using
  103. overhead projected video.

  105. EZ555 is the first of a planned series of engineering programs designed
  106. to be very friendly on narrow technical topics. This is in contrast to
  107. most engineering programs which are complex to operate but cover many
  108. topics.
  109.  
  110. EZ555 allows users to change the timing resistors, timing capacitor,
  111. frequency, and duty cycle. The user can change one or several parameters
  112. prior to selecting the recalculate button. Generally, better results are
  113. obtained by changing only one parameter at a time. EZ555 makes
  114. calculations based on the parameter changed by the user. The list below
  115. describes the procedures used by EZ555.
  116.  
  117. (1) Frequency, duty cycle, on time, and off time are recalculated
  118. when the user changes any combination of R(1), R(2), and C.
  119.  
  120. (2)  R(1) and R(2) are recalculated when the user makes a change
  121. to duty cycle.
  122.  
  123. (3) C is recalculated when the user makes a change to frequency.
  124.  
  125. Items can be selected by clicking the mouse on the item or by using the
  126. cursor keys and ENTER to make selections. Once a selection is made,
  127. pressing the INS key allows characters to be inserted. Pressing the
  128. INS key again will return the keyboard to the type-over mode. The
  129. DEL key causes the character at the current position to be deleted while
  130. BACKSPACE deletes the character to the left of the cursor position.
  131. Other aspects of the full-screen editing ability of EZ555 are identical
  132. to most editors and word processors. EZ555 ignores all characters after
  133. the first non-numeric character in a field.

  135.                          SCREEN PRINTING

  137. EZ555 uses a dark on light video presentation on your monitor screen.
  138. This is the opposite of the display method used by DOS. If you plan to
  139. do screen printing, give the command below in response to the DOS
  140. prompt prior to starting the EZ555 program.

  144. This will reverse the graphics printout to agree with the EZ555 images.
  145. EZ555 images can be printed by pressing either SHIFT/PRINTSCREEN or
  146. PRINT SCREEN depending on the keyboard type.

  149. other institutions for their evaluation. Please encourage them to

  283. Type 555 at the DOS prompt to start the program. The installation
  284. program INSTALL.EXE can be used to install EZ555 from a floppy disk to
  285. your hard drive. The screen driver program VGA.COM must be present in
  286. the same directory as 555.EXE. You must have VGA graphics to use EZ555.

  288. The installation program, INSTALL.EXE, may not be included with all
  289. distributions of this program. Copies of EZ555 downloaded from BBS and
  290. on-line services do not require installation from floppy disks. Do not
  291. run INSTALL if EZ555 is already in a directory on your hard drive.
